Senior, Jessica Roberts addressed the school board Monday at our May meeting. Jessica participated in our internship program led by Mrs. Lindsey Myers. The internship program is new this year to McLoud High School and has provided a positive experience to many of our seniors. The program allows students to explore career options prior to attending college. Jessica referred to the experience as, "the best of her high school career". Jessica interned at our secondary cafeteria. If you are a business owner and would be willing to host an inter, please reach out to Coach Myers at lmyers@mcloudschools.us. We would love to offer more opportunities like this one to our students.

McLoud School District, In light of the recent safety concerns in McLoud and surrounding schools districts, the school board along with public concern has compelled us to revisit safety options and upgrades at key locations throughout our district. A comprehensive safety assessment has been completed and many improvements are in order. Upgrades were carefully prioritized by giving consideration to high traffic areas and areas with excessive exposure. The district has made safety a priority and has taken many steps toward solidifying safety protocols and practices. However, those things alone cannot meet the needs of increasing safety concerns. District administration is working with the school board to reintroduce a future bond issue that will meet higher standards of safety for students, staff, and anyone visiting our district. As plans are drawn and decisions made, we hope to share that information with you and gain your support for the future safety of our students and staff. Sincerely, Rhonda Hockenbury Superintendent

This update was provided by the McLoud Police Department - The individual that was arrested on Tuesday has been released from jail. For reasons we do not know, the judge dropped the threat charge. We were assured the man would not be in the McLoud area for at least three more days. School officials have trespassed the individual, therefore he is not allowed on school property.

McLoud Public Schools is proud to announce that we were awarded a $20k grant from TSET as part of their Certified Healthy Schools incentive program! These funds will be used to update and add inclusive equipment to our K-6 Physical Education programs, as well as updating our water filter systems in school buildings, and looking to provide shade structures for playgrounds within the district. We are thankful for our partners at Gateway for helping us with our grant application, and making these dreams for updates come to life! A special thanks to our school counselors and especially to Tomi Murdock for doing the hard work in completing this grant application. The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) Board of Directors awarded $387,500 in Healthy Incentive Grants to 25 school districts and sites across the state at their regular board meeting on March 28. McLoud was the only district in Pottawatomie County to receive the grant!
